A 77-year-old McHenry man died following a two-vehicle crash that occurred in unincorporated McHenry on Thursday morning.
On June 2, 2022, at 11:35 AM, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, McHenry Township Fire Protection District, and Spring Grove Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a red 2012 Ford Fusion and a red 2008 Ford Expedition on Spring Grove Road at Miller Road.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the Fusion, driven by a 77-year-old McHenry man, was traveling west on Miller Road approaching a stop sign at the intersection of Spring Grove Road. The Expedition, driven by a 70-year-old McHenry man was traveling north on Spring Grove Road approaching the intersection at Miller Road, and did not have a stop sign.
For unknown reasons, the Fusion pulled out into the intersection in front of the Expedition and a crash occurred.
The driver of the Fusion died at the scene. The driver of the Expedition was transported by ambulance to Northwestern McHenry Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The intersection of Spring Grove Road and Miller Road was closed due to the investigation for approximately four hours. The driver of the Fusion was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
