McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for its 10-week Citizens Police Academy (CPA). The class will run every Wednesday starting September 11, 2024, with graduation set for November 20, 2024. Classes will be held weekly from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office – Training Division.
The CPA consists of a series of classes, discussions, and demonstrations of the various operations and divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. The goal of the CPA is to facilitate an enjoyable, educational, hands-on learning experience in the field of law enforcement while expanding our communities’ knowledge of the various services we provide.
To be a participant you must be at least 18 years of age, complete an application, and pass a criminal background check. Preference is given to residents of McHenry County, but others are encouraged to apply to this free program.
Participants who complete the CPA will have the opportunity to apply to become a member of the Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Program when openings occur. Applications can only be completed on the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office webpage at https://www.mchenrysheriff.org/community/cpa/ and must be submitted by Friday, August 16.
Anyone with questions can contact Deputy Tim Creighton at tmcreighton@mchenrycountyil.gov.
