The WRITTEN EXAM will
take place on october 17th or October 18th, 2020 and THE PHYSICAL AGILITY test will
take place on October 24th, 2020. the written exam will take place
at the mchenry county government administration building located at
667 ware road in woodstock. You will be required to show a
State issued photo ID to check in.
If you are planning on
testing with us, you must submit your application and all required paperwork
and submit it by email, u.s. postal service, or to the address
stated on the application by 12:00 p.m., friday, October
9th, 2020. DOCUMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
AT THE EXAM. When your application materials are
received, you will receive a confirmation email with additional
details regarding the date and time you are to report for
testing.

CORRECTIONAL OFFICER
Lateral Applications:
Applicants that are
currently employed as a full-time correctional officer and/or
certified law enforcement officer in a Sheriff's Department, Police
Department and/or other Law Enforcement agency, are in good
standing in their department, successfully completed training that
complies with the Illinois law (200 hours Police Training
Institute) as to minimum standards for certification as a full-time
corrections officer the definition of which includes, but is not
limited to, the authority to carry firearms, and have
completed the probationary period with the agency in which the
applicant received their certification can apply for placement on
the eligibility list at any time. All applicants accepted for
lateral transfer must pass the POWER test and must complete a state
approved corrections academy within 6 months of the transfer (if
applicable). Applicants approved by the Sheriff or designee shall
be placed on the Eligibility List for a period of one year or until
a new testing date has been administered.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY:
- Applicant must be 21 years of age at hiring.
- Applicant must be a high school graduate or have a GED.
- Applicant must be a United States Citizen.
- Applicant must possess a valid driver's license.
- Applicant must possess a valid FOID - Firearm Owner's
Identification Card. (Can be applied for online at: www.ispfsb.com) (*After receiving
an offer of employment)
- Applicant must live in McHenry County or any bordering Illinois
counties, or Kenosha/Walworth counties in Wisconsin,
within one year of hiring.
DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR EMPLOYMENT:
- Completed Sheriff's Department Application
- Copy of Valid Driver's License
- Copy of Valid FOID - Firearm Owner's Identification Card
- Copy of Birth Certificate / US Citizenship Paperwork
- Copy of High School Diploma/GED or a Copy of High School
Transcripts
- Copy of College Diploma (If applicable)
- Copy of College Transcripts (If applicable)
- Copy of Military Discharge DD214 papers (if applicable)
In order to be placed on the Corrections Hiring
Eligibility List, an applicant must turn in the above required
paperwork and complete each of the following:
STEP #1 - PHYSICAL ABILITY TEST (POWER
TEST):
-Based upon the state mandated POWER test standards. Applicants must be
dressed appropriately and wear gym shoes for participating in the
Physical Ability Test.

STEP #2 - WRITTEN EXAMINATION:
Three-part test based upon general knowledge. Candidates
must receive a minimum passing score of 70% in each part:
reading comprehension, basic math skills, writing skills, grammar,
spelling, and interpretation. You do not need prior law enforcement
knowledge to pass.
STEP #3 - ORAL INTERVIEW:
Interviews are conducted by the Corrections Administration.
After placement on the Corrections Hiring Eligibility List, an
applicant must successfully complete any additional procedures as
may be required by the Sheriff of McHenry County at his/her sole
discretion (including, but not limited to, background
investigation, physical examination, drug screening examination,
and criminal history check). The applicants on the Eligibility List
are not ranked but are listed in alphabetical order. The Sheriff
may hire any person on the Eligibility List as he/she deems
appropriate. The Eligibility List is valid for one year.
