9/25/2018 12:00:00 AM

Sheriff Bill Prim presented Life Saving and commendatory awards during a ceremony Tuesday to six employees, recognizing their exemplary performance of duties while serving the citizens of McHenry County.

Deputies Justin McKenzie and Brad Tomasheski were presented Lifesaving Awards for providing lifesaving doses of Naloxone Hydrochloride to an unconscious subject who had overdosed on February 21, 2018.  The subject regained consciousness shortly thereafter.

Deputies David Bachman and Noah Knudson were presented Lifesaving Awards for providing lifesaving doses of Naloxone Hydrochloride to an unconscious subject who had overdosed on May 18, 2018.  The subject regained consciousness shortly thereafter.

Deputy Noah Knudson was presented another Lifesaving Awards for providing lifesaving doses of Naloxone Hydrochloride, while on scene of an unrelated call, to an unconscious subject who had overdosed on June 2, 2018.

Deputy Travis Bodway was presented a Lifesaving Awards for providing lifesaving doses of Naloxone Hydrochloride to an unconscious subject who had overdosed on June 7, 2018.  After providing the Narcan, Deputy Bodway deployed a defibrillator and administered CPR until the arrival of EMS.

A Letter of Recognition was presented to Sgt. Alex Embry for the planning and execution of a full scale multi-jurisdictional training drill that occurred at the courthouse on May 5, 2018.

"It is telling that all of the lifesaving awards presented today were for the administration of a medication that counteracts the potentially fatal effect of opioids when users overdose," Sheriff Prim said.  "Without this tool, we would be losing more of our citizens to this national epidemic.  But it also shows that use of these deadly drugs is far too high in McHenry County."
