Press Release- Sheriff’s Office Investigates a Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash

A 29-year-old Niles man has died as the result of a single vehicle crash that occurred on Sunday evening in the 21000 block of Oak Grove Road in unincorporated Harvard.

 On August 11, 2019 at 7:24 p.m., the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, McHenry County Conservation Police, and the Harvard Fire/Rescue District responded to a single vehicle crash involving a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL450 that had crashed into two trees on Oak Grove Road west of Illinois Route 14.

 On-scene investigation indicated that the Mercedes-Benz had been traveling eastbound on Oak Grove Road. For unknown reasons the Mercedes-Benz crossed over the westbound lane of travel and exited the roadway to the north where it struck two trees and rolled onto its side.

 The passenger of the Mercedes-Benz was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, a 32-year-old Niles man was flown by React helicopter to Javon Bea Hospital on Riverside Road in Rockford with serious injuries.  Airbags deployed in the vehicle and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. 

 The investigation continues by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner's Office.
